Matt & Nat is proudly a Canadian company that specializes in vegan leather. Their name is produced by shorting the words "material" and "natural", and since 1995, those are the words their company lives by. Here is a little excerpt from their about section on mattandnat.com
"We're passionate and in awe of the world that surrounds us. Being inspired by MAT(T)erial and NATure means exploring the synergy between the two, the reflection of one on the other."
On their site, they give insight to the materials that make up their bags;
"we've been experimenting with different recycled materials such as recycled nylons, cardboard, rubber and cork. Since 2007, we've been committed to using linings only only made out of 100% recycled plastic bottles. We have also recently introduced recycled bicycle tires to our collections."
With having one of their bags for almost two months now, I can honestly say the quality is like that of a strong leather. I own a vintage thick leather jacket and it is the sturdiest thing I own and while this is 100% recycled materials, this is as sturdy as that 20+ year old jacket. I even got a scratch in the "leather" right at the front and I was so upset, but within a couple weeks the scratch just wore over and became part of the texture just like leather would do. I am honestly proud to be a Canadian that reps this company; the fashion industry needs more of these self-aware brands now that clothing (that could easily be recycled) is filling more and more landfills.
Plus their designs are extremely innovative and super fashionable! I'm already putting a few more bags on my wishlist hehe.
